Visit the lavender Museum
Discover in the heart of Digne-les-Bains, on the first floor of the shop "Lavandieres en Provence", the sound and light museum of lavender, in tribute to the little blue flower, emblem of our territory. The sound and light show will transport you to the past, making you discover the beauty but also the hardness of work in the mountains, thanks to the memories of the elders who share their experiences and memories with you.
Follow through the scenes the stories of life and testimonies of the families of workers of the lavender basin Digne, while discovering the multiple landscapes that the Alpes de Haute-Provence have to offer.
Learn more about distillation through demonstrations all summer in the museum's courtyard.
The visit is not focused on the technical side of distillation, our goal is to highlight the human side of the profession of lavender workers. The visit consists of testimonials, anecdotes and life stories, before ending with a video explaining the different types of lavender and their uses, as well as the events around the lavender taking place in Digne-les-Bains .
To learn more about the purely technical side of distillation, we invite you to come and take part in distillation demonstrations taking place every day in July and August in the museum courtyard. They are completely free and if you take a bottle, you can leave with the lavender water obtained during the distillation!
Allow 45 minutes for the visit of the museum and between 15 and 30 minutes for the demos of distillation.
To allow for a more realistic experience (hear the typical accents for instance), the sounds are in French, written translations are available in English.
